Most of us don’t need more content.
We need somewhere to go. We need a connection with each other.
Insight Studio is a living studio and creative circle.
It is a place for processing life through writing, photography, and art.
A place for being seen without performing.
A place for moving slowly.
A place for not figuring everything out alone.
It is not a course.
It is not a productivity system.
It is not a program.
People tend to crave this kind of community when they are in the middle of something. Grief. Change. Aging. Love. Illness. Identity shifts. Letting go. Starting over. Or when they simply feel that something is moving inside them and they don’t yet have language for it.
There is a reason I’m creating this space right now. I need it - maybe more than ever. I need the connection with you - maybe more than ever. So I am member #1, as well as our host.
We’ll use tools like poetry, Insight Writing®, TellMe Insight Cards, photography or art to forge a kind of freedom practice, a practice of expression, imperfection, vulnerability, and self-trust.
You do NOT need to consider yourself a writer, an artist, or a creative person to benefit. In fact, if you are none of those things, you may actually have less of your identity in the way. You are invited to write as poorly as possible and make really ‘bad’ art, as long as it feels liberating for you to do so.
And when you show up imperfectly, it gives the rest of us permission to do the same. Imperfection is a kind of leadership here.
Inside Insight Studio, you’ll find a few simple things:
Rooms
These are themed spaces you can enter when you’re in a particular season of life. They include writing invitations, optional art or photo prompts, short reflections, gentle guidance, and pre-recorded writing sessions.
Themes may center around love, loss, becoming, aging, courage, home, letting go, mindfulness, and wellness. Or even childhood, nature, humor, creative practice or imagination.
You don’t complete Rooms. You spend time in them. Pick and choose the rooms you want to explore, and poke around when you can.
The Commons
A shared space on Substack for conversation, presence, sharing and reflection. You’ll find announcements and private chats. Share comments, what you are creating or ways you are creatively shaping in your life. Add to the chat. Or simply observe quietly. Up to you.
For those who wish to share, there will be posts that shine a light on the writing, images, artwork, and insights being manifest here by our peers.
Gatherings
Occasionally, we gather live on Zoom for Insight Writing®. These gatherings are gentle, reflective, and unhurried. Learn more about Insight Writing® Gatherings (for both free and paid subscribers) here:
In between, expect pop-up chats, quick writing sessions, impromptu fire-starters for writing, photography or artmaking. All optional and there when you need them.
There is nothing to keep up with here.
Nothing to optimize.
Nothing to perform.
Insight Studio is designed around human pace, not internet pace.
If you’re here as a free subscriber, you’ll receive my public letters. You’re welcome to stay here as long as you like.
If you choose to become an Insight Studio member, you gain access to the deeper parts of the space: the Rooms, the Commons, the gatherings, and the full archive.
Membership is not about more content. It’s about more presence and having a place (and familiar faces and voices) to return to. That’s what makes it unique from other Substack subscriptions, where you only pay for more content.
If this engaged space sounds like something you’ve been wishing for, you can find subscription options and join here:
If you’re not sure, that’s okay. We are not going anywhere. You’re welcome to linger.
A Welcome Gift: Paid subscribers also get instant access to three original art prints, ready to download, print or enjoy however you choose. xoxo
